Unrouteable address on cPanel server (exim)

For the error "Unrouteable address" in your exim logs there can be several reasons.

The most common causes of this problem are listed below

  1. the domain is not listed at /etc/localdomains, /etc/userdomains or /etc/trueuserdomains
Solution: Put the domain in /etc/localdomains, /etc/userdomains and /etc/trueuserdomains
  2. In case of domain transfers, this error can also occur if you use the smtp on the same server
Solution: Put the domain into /etc/remotedomains untill the domain transfer is finished. After that put it back into /etc/localdomains
  3. (update) If the /etc/valiases/{domainname here} file is empty, this problem also occurs! So check it!
